Rain in Shanghai

June 18th, 2011

By now I am here in Shanhai working and living since about three months. In this time I have seen and experienced many things. As it is raining today without any break (actually it is already raining for days with just a few breaks) I will let you know something not that important things about my rain water pipe on my terrace.

Since beginning of April I am living in an appartment with one bedroom, one big living room, a very small kitchen and a bathroom. Furthermore I have a big terrace which is not that cozy since there is nothing on it than some waste which is coming from my nice neighbours from above. Maybe I should buy some plants :) .

Between the house and the terrace there is an open rain water pipe which takes all the rain water from the roof as well as from my terrace and the washing machines of our house. It’s not hard to imagine that the poor pipe is somewhat overstrained in case of rainy days like we have it now. Therefore I am pretty happy that I cleaned my small pipe not long ago. Otherwise my terrace could be turned into a small pool today.

But fortunately the architects of our house have made a wise decision when they put the first floor (that’s what the groundfloor is called in Chinese) about half a meter above the ground. Now the pool (terrace) has enough capacity even for longer rain falls and lazy occupants (who don’t want to clean their rain water pipe) without an ending in an indoor pool …

WMPL turned commercial

June 5th, 2011

After a long time not updating my website I learned today that there are some advantages to code your website by your own if possible. Even if this way needs much more efforts, but then it cannot happen like this time, that one important part of your website suddenly becomes pretty expensive. After a long search and much thinking about it I decided to use the WPML plugin to realize a multilingual website. Now it turned commercial and one has to pay 29 bucks per year. This is definitely too much – even if I was very content until now. Therefore I hope that the old version still installed in this website will be compatible with future WordPress versions ;) . Furthermore I can recommend my that time second choice multilingual plugin, which is qtranslate and very powerful, too …

Narrations about China

November 26th, 2010

Why, some visitors of this website who do not know me personally may ask, there is a catergory called “China” here. Well, it’s pretty simple, since I was staying one year in China – studying in Nanjing and travelling around – from summer 2006 to summer 2007, I was more and more fond of the country and the people. Therefore I decided to tell something about my experiences and my impressions about China here.
